HARTSVILLE — Trousdale County's pursuit of perfection lives for at least one more week.
The Yellow Jackets led all night against rival Goodpasture, getting two touchdowns apiece from Zach Blackwell and Kenyan Harper to beat the Cougars 31-19 in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs Friday night.
Trousdale County (11-0) moves on to next week's state quarterfinal against Marion County (10-2). Goodpasture finished its season 6-6.
The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring on Blackwell's 2-yard touchdown that culminated the opening drive of the game, giving them a 7-0 lead.
Then came a wild second quarter.
Goodpasture scored when Tate Gregory returned a punt 57 yards for a touchdown, but the Yellow Jackets blocked the extra-point attempt, preserving a 7-6 lead.
Harper got in on the act moments later. He fielded the ensuing kickoff near the goal line and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown to put Trousdale County ahead, 14-6.
Goodpasture got another big play moments later. Drew Desirey hooked up with Jordan Goff for a 51-yard touchdown pass. The Cougars tried to tie the game, but Trousdale County snuffed out the two-point conversion.
Harper and Goff traded touchdowns for their teams. Harper had a 3-yard touchdown run to make it 21-12, but Goff added a 1-yard run late in the first half and cut the margin to 21-19 at halftime.
Blackwell scored perhaps the key touchdown -- the only TD of the second half. He caught a 35-yard pass from Marquel Claiborne to push the margin to 28-19 midway through the third period.
Christian Lauderdale's 34-yard field goal with six minutes left in the fourth quarter finished the scoring for the Yellow Jackets.
By then, the Yellow Jackets had secured another playoff game against Marion County. The teams met last year in the second round in the playoffs, with the Warriors winning a 48-21 decision in Jasper. It was the most points given up by Trousdale County in a playoff game.
