While the single-digit temperatures and icy conditions have put area basketball in the deep freeze, a couple of Wilson County teams have drawn votes in the season’s first Associated Press poll.

Mt. Juliet checked in at No. 4 in the Class AAA girls with 55 points based on an 11-1 record. No. 3 Riverdale has 91 points and No. 5 Morristown West accumulated 45. Science Hill, off to a 19-0 start, had 10-9 points.

Lebanon’s resurgence in boys’ basketball has gone noticed by enough AP voters to give the 10-3 Blue Devils 14 points, good for No. 12 in Class AAA boys. No. 11 Blackman had 17 points and No. 13 Dyer County 13. No. 10 Kenwood collected 19 points. No. 1 White Station, which is 10-0, garnered 123 points.

Area coaches and administrators were also busy rescheduling games iced out Monday and Tuesday nights, with Wednesday night being the makeup date of choice in District 9-AAA.

Lebanon will travel to Gallatin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday while Wilson Central will play host to Station Camp at the regular 6:30 time. Mt. Juliet plans to go to Hendersonville with tip time at 6:30 if school is back in session, but could be earlier if classes remain closed, Lady Bear coach Chris Fryer said.

Watertown was frozen out of a trip to Westmoreland on Monday and a District 8-A home date with Merrol Hyde on Tuesday. Merrol Hyde will visit WHS at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Westmoreland series – both scheduled games have been called off by wintry weather – is on hold right now as Watertown has eight district games remaining and trips owed to Smith County and Pickett County, which have already been to WHS, Tigerette coach Lane Price said.

Friendship Christian is also closed today, meaning the Commanders won’t travel as scheduled to Franklin to take on Centennial tonight.

Mt. Juliet Christian’s home game with Eagleville set for Monday has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, MJCA coach/athletic director Paul Christensen said.
