Lady Bears roll at Southside

Mt. Juliet Middle’s girls rolled to a 29-14 victory at Southside on Monday night.

The Lady Bears led 4-0 following the first quarter, 17-2 at halftime and 25-7 through three as they improved to 10-4.

Monako Woods’ five points led the Lady Bears. Kathryn Bean, Natalie Sims, Julia Maki, Madison Hardy and Peyton Brumbach each finished with four, Sidney Throneberry three and Keah Ellis a free throw.

Abby Presley finished with five points for Southside while Faith Morehead managed four, Sydney Kurth three and Keionna Britton two.

Mt. Juliet will play host to Christiana at 6 p.m. tonight in a makeup game at Tommy Martin Gym.

WJB boys fall at Prescott

COOKEVILLE — Walter J. Baird’s boys dropped a 46-24 decision at Prescott on Monday night.

The Blue Devils trailed 15-10 following the first quarter, 29-15 at halftime and 35-21 going into the fourth.

Michael Scavo’s 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and five rebounds, led Prescott.

Dylan Alsup led all scorers with 12 points for Baird. Daniel Covile scored seven points, Chase Birdwell and Jared Lawrence two each and Tavarus Booker a free throw with seven rebounds.

Friendship falls at MTCS

MURFREESBORO — Friendship Christian’s girls dropped a 27-17 decision at Middle Tennessee Christian on Monday night.

Afterward, Friendship’s boys scored just two points in the third quarter of a come-from-ahead 34-28 setback.

The Lady Commanders trailed 7-4 following the first quarter, 8-7 at halftime and 20-11 through three as they fell to 3-7.

Lindsey Freeman finished with nine points for Friendship while Madisen Strickland, Aja Jones, Marti Taylor and Sarah Terry each tossed in two.

The Commanders led 19-12 at halftime before being outscored 15-2 in the third quarter as they fell to 6-4.

Nate Howell, who scored 21 in the Cougars’ previous meeting with Friendship, as held to 13 this time, including four late free throws which helped clinch the win for Middle Tennessee Christian.

Mike Jones Jr.’s nine points led Friendship while Ben Jamison added eight, Hanley Sobieszczyk seven and Matthew Skeen four.

Friendship will return to MTCS on Friday for the James C. Haile State Tournament. The Lady Commanders will open with South Fentress at 8:15 p.m. FCS’ boys will also play that day at 4:30 p.m. against Eastside.

MJCA girls rout Merrol Hyde

MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet Christian’s girls crushed Merrol Hyde 48-14 in middle-school basketball Monday night.

The Lady Saints led 24-8 at halftime.

Marcella Gallione threw in 13 points and Caroline Hibbett 12 to lead the Lady Saints. Sam Stilts added eight points, Caitlyn Smith seven, Courtney Wall four and Mary Laxton two. Shannon McCauley rounded out MJCA’s scoring with her first two points of the season.

Mt. Juliet Christian will travel to Nashville Christian on Thursday.
