FRANKLIN — Mt. Juliet Christian’s middle school had a pair of nail-biting wins at Poplar Grove on Wednesday night.

The Lady Saints needed three free throws by Marcella Gallione in the final minute for a 28-27 triumph.

Later, Noah Michael swished a jumper from the key with 1.8 seconds left for his second game-winner of the season against Poplar Grove, this time accounting for a 28-27 triumph.

Gallione was fouled shooting a three-pointer to send her to the line. She sank four triples on her way to 18 points for the night. Caitlyn Smith scored six points and Sam Stilts four as Mt. Juliet Christian climbed to 10-1 in Greater Nashville Athletic Conference play.

Michael, whose three-pointer at MJCA beat Poplar Grove earlier this season, took a Caylor Bates pass and sank the winner as the Saints pulled even at 8-8 for the season and rose to 6-4 in GNAC play.

Mt. Juliet Christian led 15-10 following the first quarter and 17-14 at halftime before the teams went into the fourth tied 23-23.

In addition to his winning assist, Bates bagged three triples on his way to 11 points while Alex Pitman scored seven, Josh Jose six and Michael and Jacob Hall two each.

Jariel Wilson’s 10 points paced Poplar Grove.

Mt. Juliet Christian will play host to Harding Academy at 6 p.m. next Tuesday.
