CU wrestling ranked 10th nationally; five individuals rated

Cumberland dropped two spots to 10th in the latest NAIA wrestling coaches’ top 20 poll while Jake Williams, Kirk Johnson, Zeke Hunt, Cody Linton and Scott Stewart all remained ranked in their respective weight classes, as announced this week by the national office.
The Bulldogs finished third at the NWCA National Duals two weeks ago, defeating second-ranked Montana State-Northern and No. 4 Great Falls, but CU dropped matches against seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson and No. 5 Campbellsville.
Williams remains undefeated this academic year, moving to 11-0 with Thursday night’s pin of Steven Melara from the University of the Cumberlands. The Rio Rancho, N.M., native moved up one spot to third nationally at 149.
Johnson posted an 8-3 decision against UC’s Steve Traylor on Thursday and has an 18-8 mark this year at 165. The Indianapolis, Ind., native dropped four spots to No. 12 this week.
Hunt moved down two spots to seventh at 174 despite a 14-3 overall mark this season. The Dacula, Ga., native recorded a 10-0 major decision on Thursday against UC’s Brandon Rogers at 184.
Linton moved up one spot to third nationally at 184, registering an 8-1 mark this academic year. The Winters, Calif., native defeated No. 3 Kamron Jackson from Great Falls at the NWCA National Duals.
Stewart moved up two spots to 10th at 197 after an 11-5 decision over Campbellsville’s ninth-ranked Nate Knauf last week. The Kenova, W.Va., native is 16-7 this season for the Bulldogs.
Cumberland will have individuals at the Appalachian State Open in Boone, N.C., and at the Mustang Open in Conway, Ark., today.
