MJCA middle boys advance in GMAC tourney

MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet Christian’s middle-school boys bounced back from a slow start to oust Hendersonville Christian from the Greater Nashville Athletic Conference tournament 32-28 Thursday night.

The Saints trailed 10-5 following the first quarter before rallying in front 15-11 at halftime and 24-22 going into the fourth as they advanced to tonight’s 8:15 p.m. semifinal with an 11-9 record.

The remainder of the tournament will shift to Merrol Hyde tonight where the No. 2-seed Saints will face either No. 6 Clarksville Academy or No. 3 Merrol Hyde on the Hawks’ floor.

Caylor Bates sank 6 of 9 free throws as he and Alex Pitman each put in 11 points for Mt. Juliet Christian. Josh Jose scored six and Andrew Kittrell and Noah Michael two each.

Jalen Cole connected on a pair of three-pointers in leading Hendersonville Christian with 16 points.
