New regulations: The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced the 2014 fishing regulations and there are only a few minor changes from last year's.

The only ones affecting Middle Tennessee anglers is an increase in Kentucky Lake's sauger minimum length to 15 inches and an increase in the musky length to 50 inches in the Caney Fork watershed (including Caney Fork River and Center Hill Lake.).

For detailed information about state-wide rules and regulations consult the 2014 Tennessee Fishing Guide, available for free at most outdoors outlets.

Tackle bargains: New and used fishing tackle and gear will be on sale at bargain prices Saturday, March 1 at Mt. Juliet's Charlie Daniels Park, starting at 9 a.m. and running until 2 p.m.

There is a $5 admission fee which goes to the TWRA's hatchery program. Youngsters 12 and under get in free.

Lebanon guideĀ  Jim Duckworth and Mt. Juliet antique tackle expert Gibby Gibson will be among the exhibitors.

"There will be some great bargains," Duckworth says. "Lures that sell for $5-$10 can be found for $1, and there will be a great selection of rods and reels at tremendous discounts. It'll be a good chance to stock up on gear for the upcoming fishing season."

Seasons end: Rabbit, squirrel and quail seasons close Feb. 28.

Turkey season opens March 29 and runs through May 11.

Spring squirrel season opens May 10 and runs through June 8.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will soon begin the planning of this fall's hunting seasons and regulations, to be approved by the Tennessee Fish & Wildlife Commission.

Licenses expire: Hunters and fishermen are reminded that their 2013 licenses expire Feb. 28. Renewals are available on-line (tnwildlife.org) or at most outdoors outlets.

There are no changes in the costs of license and permits.
