Former Friendship Christian basketball standout Mark Sandoval helped Centre win the Southern Athletic Association tournament championship last weekend in Danville, Ky. That came on the heels of the Colonels’ regular-season championship. Sandoval, who was named state tournament most valuable player when the Commanders won the state title two years ago, transferred to Centre from Bellarmine. He was a fulltime player on the Colonels’ junior-varsity team and came off the bench for the varsity. Centre [23-4] will play host to LaGrange [18-10] on Thursday in the first round of the Division III NCAA Tournament, an event in which the Colonels are making their seventh appearance in the last eight seasons and 16th overall.
