Alsup pitches Baird to road win

COOKEVILLE — Dylan Alsup pitched four no-hit innings Monday as Walter J. Baird went on the road and beat Prescott 9-4.

Ethan Maggart came on in the fifth and allowed a double. The two pitchers had to work around five errors as the Blue Devils, who saw Southside squeeze home the tying run in a 4-4 tie last Friday, move to 4-1-1 for the season.

Eli McDearman drove in three runs as he and Felipe Juarez each had two hits for Baird while A.J. Fletcher and Brady Chappel chipped in with one apiece.

The Blue Devils will play their delayed home opener [wet conditions forced the Southside game to the played on the Saints’ Stumpy Lane field], today when DeKalb West visits for a 4:15 p.m. game.

MJCA middle baseball moves to 2-0

MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet Christian’s middle-school baseball team rolled to a 12-0 triumph over Hendersonville Christian on Friday afternoon.

Alex Pitman led the Saints on the mound as Mt. Juliet Christian climbed to 2-0 going into today’s 4 p.m. home game against Middle Tennessee Christian.

“Our guys got off to a slow start,” Mt. Juliet Christian coach Mike Kittrell said. “I’m proud of how we stayed patient and just kept playing.”
