Friendship doubles up state champs

Friendship Christian doubled up visiting Ezell-Harding 6-3 Thursday in the longtime rivals’ inaugural meeting as East-Middle District 1-A rivals.
Courtney Petty held the defending Division II-A state champions to five hits while striking out five. She was backed by a 10-hit parade.
Broke Eakes and Kelsi Dickey singled and scored on Jordan Burton’s two-run single in the Friendship first inning.
Dickey singled and scored on Tana Whited’s fifth-inning triple. Taylor Patterson walked in the sixth and scored on Petty’s triple.
The Lady Commanders will carry a 6-4 record to Macon County today for a 5 p.m. game.
Sanders one-hits Portland in Lady Bear win
MT. JULIET — Savannah Sanders pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout Thursday for Mt. Juliet in a 3-0 win over Portland in the Lady Bears’ District 9-AAA opener.
Sanders struck out 15 as Mt. Juliet moved to 9-1. Portland’s only hit was a leadoff double in the second inning.
Emily Bombard banged out two doubles to lead Mt. Juliet’s seven-hit attack. Her second two-bagger drove in sister Lily Bombard, who was courtesy-running for Sanders, in the fourth inning.
Kelsie Craighead doubled in the third inning and scored on Ashton Stowe’s single. Shelby Woodard blasted an RBI double off the left-field fence to score Stowe.
Mt. Juliet left six runners in scoring position.
“We have the potential to be a competitive softball team with plenty of pop offensively, but today we just didn’t get clutch hits,” Mt. Juliet coach Brad Rowlett said. “Sanders was in complete control and the defense made the routine plays which helped us overcome our offensive letdown today.”
Mt. Juliet will travel to Murfreesboro tonight for a 6 p.m. game at Siegel.
Smith leads unbeaten MJCA to sixth win
MT. JULIET — Undefeated Mt. Juliet Christian pounded Pearl-Cohn 16-7 Thursday for the Lady Saints’ sixth win.
Caitlyn Smith allowed five hits and struck out 11 for the Lady Saints.
Liz Russ drove in four runs, Smith three, Kendra Robertson two and Abi Hildabrand one.
Mt. Juliet Christian will travel to Lighthouse Christian today for a 4 p.m. game.
Beech run-rules Lebanon 11-1
Lebanon was no match for visiting Beech as the Lady Buccaneers run-ruled the Lady Devils 11-1 in six innings Thursday.
Beech broke a 1-1 tie with four scores in the third inning and finished off Lebanon with six in the sixth as the Lady Devils dropped to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in District 9-AAA play.
The Lady Bucs blasted 15 hits, including a home run, against pitchers Anna Smallwood and Kasey Squires.
Lebanon was held to two hits – by Kaitlin Eakes and Shelby Wright, who drove in Brooke McClendon with the tying run in the second inning.
The Lady Devils will travel to Cookeville for the Gordonsville Tournament today. Lebanon will face Powell at 11:30 a.m. and Upperman at 2:30 p.m. Watertown is also scheduled to compete in the event.
