Top shot: David Wilson, owner of Lebanon Gun Shop, won the Ultimate Benchrest Rifle (UBR) Custom Class match in a recent competition.

He was first among nine competitors, using a 30BR rifle built by Ben Schade, an official with the Cedar City Gun Club.

Other Wilson County competitors were John Charland (second in the factor class), Morris Shankle and Russell Scales.

The UBR matches are conducted each month at the Gallatin Gun Club. Information is available at ultimatebenchrest.com

Trap shoot: Danny Shaw won the weekly trap shoot at the Cedar City Gun Club with a near-perfect round of 48. Howard McCaleb was second with a 47.

Timothy Whitlock won Sub-Junior.

Friends of NRA banquet: Tickets are still available for the April 4 Friends of NRA banquet and auction at the James Ward Ag Center. It starts at 5:30 p.m. and any available tickets will be sold at the door.

For tickets or information call 615-533-8721.

New Commissioner: Connie King of Clarksville has been named by Gov. Bill Haslam as 13th member of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission. She replaces Julie Schuster who resigned to accept a position with a state advocacy group.

King is one of two women on the Commission, joining Lebanon's Jamie Woodson.

The TFWC oversees the operation of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and has final approval of all game and fish regulations.

Bears studied: The TWRA is studying the spread of the state's black bears into new areas, including some Middle Tennessee counties, with the possibility of starting a hunting season for them. Currently bears are hunted in only a few East Tennessee counties near the Smokey Mountains.

Trout reminder: Angles who fish for stocked trout are reminded that they need a supplemental trout license in addition to the standard fishing license, except for holders of Sportsman's License and Lifetime License.

The trout license is required to catch trout, even if they are released.

After a 7-trout limit is strung, anglers are allowed to keep fishing, but must return all additional trout they catch.
