Friendship Christian scored in the first inning and Courtney Petty made the lead stand as the Lady Commanders beat visiting Upperman 4-1 Monday.
An RBI double by Kelsi Dickey and two-out, run-scoring single by Jordan Burton staked Petty and the Lady Commanders to an early 2-0 lead.
Petty scattered six hits and four walks while striking out 10. Upperman’s only run came on a home run to center field in the top of the sixth inning to cut the margin in half.
But Friendship got the run back, with 100-percent interest, in the bottom of the inning. Dickey - who tripled, doubled and singled in going 3-for-3 – got her triple here to the fence in right-center and scored on Tana Whited’s double to almost the same spot. Burton reached on an error for the final run.
Brice Dabbs also singled as the Lady Commanders collected six hits in climbing to 8-4.
Friendship will play host to Donelson Christian in an East-Middle District 1-A game at 5 p.m. today.
