Commanders roll past MJCA 11-3

Cody Walker drove in four runs and Jackson Vance and Colton Gaines three each as Friendship Christian rolled past visiting Mt. Juliet Christian 11-3 Monday night.

Walker hit RBI singles in the first and third innings and a two-run double in the fourth. Vance hit an RBI double in the first and a two-run double in the fifth. Gaines cracked a two-run single in the third and an RBI groundout in the fourth.

Winning pitcher Michael Hawks doubled as he, Steven Hollis and Milam Copeland each singled.

Hawks pitched six innings for the win. He allowed six hits and a walk while striking out eight. Marshall Taylor tossed the seventh as the Commanders climbed to 5-8 for the season and 3-0 in the East-Middle District 1-A.

Rik Vamali pitched the first four innings for the Saints in the meeting of left-handed starters. He allowed nine runs.

Peyton Sloan doubled and singled for the Saints while Andy Pitman picked up a pair of singles. Drew Headrick singled home a run and Elliott Lee knocked in another score.

The teams will hook up again in the district series at 4:30 p.m. today at MJCA.

Tigers win on hit-and-walkoff-run

WATERTOWN — Dusty Meador doubled home Colin Jennings with the walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh inning of Watertown’s 7-6 win over Gordonsville on Monday at Three Forks Park.

Jennings was on first base when coach E.J. Wood called for a hit-and-run. Meador sliced an opposite-field double down the left-field line to lift Watertown to 7-5 for the season in the Purple Tigers’ District 8-A opener.

Freshman Seth Price pitched two innings in relief for the win. He also went 2-for-2 at the plate and drew a pair of walks.

Starting pitcher Justin Johnson worked five innings and struck out six. He also drove in two runs on as many hits.

Meador went 3-for-4 at the plate as Watertown was outhit 13-11.

The teams will hook up again today at 5 p.m. at Crump Paris Park in South Carthage. District 8-A has adopted the home-and-away series other leagues use in an attempt to keep teams from having to face a team’s No. 1 pitcher.

Bears walk off with 4-3 win over Houston

MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet scored a walk-off 4-3 win over Houston in the Warrior Classic on Friday night.

C.J. Kastner led off the bottom of the seventh inning with an infield single, his third hit of the game. Zach Ehrhart singled with one out and, with two out, Eli Mason’s grounder up the middle was bobbled by the second baseman, allowing Kastner to score and lift the Golden Bears to 11-2-1 for the season going into Monday’s trip to Portland.

Eli Schreibner pitched a perfect top of the seventh inning to improve to 2-0. Starter Logan Harris gave up an earned run and three hits with five strikeouts in five innings.

Mt. Juliet took a 3-0 lead in the third on a two-run double by Marshall Gei and an RBI single by Ehrhart.

Houston scored a run in the fourth and tied the game with two in the sixth.
