Lady Commanders hand MJCA first loss

MT. JULIET — Friendship Christian handed Mt. Juliet Christian its first softball loss of the season 14-0 Monday.

Freshman Abi Hildabrand had Mt. Juliet Christian’s only hit, a fourth-inning single against Courtney Petty, while the Lady Saints committed seven errors behind eighth-grade pitcher Caitlyn Smith.

Friendship went down in order in the first inning before getting three runs in the second, four in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth as the Lady Commanders climbed to 12-6 for the season and 3-0 in the East-Middle District 1-A.

Tana Whited doubled in the Friendship second and scored on Jordan Burton’s triple. Back-to-back errors brought in the next two scores.

In the third, Petty walked and came around on a pair of errors. Burton banged out an RBI single. Freshman Brice Dabbs, who hit her first high school home run against Sale Creek on Saturday in Chattanooga, followed with an RBI fielder’s choice. Brittany Petry capped the inning with an RBI double.

Petty singled in the fourth and scored on a four-base error on Dickey’s fly ball.

In the fifth, singles by Kaylee Davenport and Taylor Davenport and a hit batter [Petty] loaded the bases. Dickey singled home one run and Whited two. Dickey came home on a passed ball before Petry poked an RBI single. Annalise Jarnigan capped the 11-hit parade with a single.

Petty struck out 12 and walked one.

Friendship will play host to Lebanon at 6 p.m. Thursday.
