Local Chapter honored: The April 4 Wilson County Chapter of Friends of NRA banquet/fundraiser netted over $26,000, and eared the organization National High Caliber honors.

The local chapter has received national recognition for its membership growth and fund-raising efforts.

Most of the money generated goes to local schools and civic organizations to support the shooting sports, firearms training and related activities.


TWRA seeks fishing comments: The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is seeking comments, concerns and recommendations for its 2014 fishing regulations.

The input will be considered by fisheries managers and may be presented as proposals for regulation change.

Comments may be submitted by main to: Fish Comments, TWRA, Fisheries Management Division, PO Box 40747, Nashville, Tn. 37204 or emailed to TWRA.Comment@tn.gov

Include "Fish Comments" on subject line of emailed submissions.

The comment period runs until May 6.


Top shots: Rob Mathis was one shot from a perfect round, but his 49 still took top honors at last week's Cedar City Gun Club trap shoots.

Few changes this season: There are no major changes in this year's state fishing regulations that affect Middle Tennessee anglers.

Regulations can differ in different parts of the state, however, and even in lakes in the same area, such as Old Hickory and Percy Priest. Detailed information is available in the Tennessee Fishing Guide, available for free at most outdoors outlets.


Local hunter on YouTube: The hunt on which Lebanon's Mike Graves bagged a huge elk last October is posted on Tennessee Wild Side's website on a YouTube video. The video is titled "Hard Hunt, Big Harvest."


Interscholastic shooting team: Ben Schade is organizing an interscholastic trap-shooting team for Wilson County youngsters.

The team, which will be known as the Cedar City Straights, is open to youngsters age nine through high school, and will compete in state, regional and even national competitions. They must complete a firearms safety course to be eligible. Schade can provide information about the process.

The team recently received a $1,916 grant from Friends of NRA to held with funding.
