FCS’ Vance spins three-hit shutout

Jackson Vance held visiting Antioch to three hits in a five-inning 10-0 shutout for Friendship Christian in high school baseball Friday night.

The sophomore right-hander struck out nine and walked one as the Commanders climbed to 13-14 going into today’s 10 a.m. regular-season finale against visiting Gordonsville.

The Commanders scored in all five of their at-bats on 11 hits. Leadoff batter Steven Hollis went 4-for-4, ending the game with a two-run double in the fifth inning.

Cody Walker doubled home a pair of runs in the fourth and had two hits. Milam Copeland also collected a couple of hits, one of which drove in a third-inning run.

Colton Gaines doubled and hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Jacob Self doubled in a second-inning run. Vance reached on a first-inning error for the game’s first run. Marshall Taylor singled.
