ANTIOCH — After a fast start, Friendship Christian’s bats cooled and Ezell-Harding dropped the Commanders into the East-Middle District 8-A third-place game with a 5-3 victory Thursday night.

Steven Hollis opened the game with a home run and helped make it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Jared Lowe drove in a run with a fielder’s choice.

But Hollis’ fifth-inning single was Friendship’s only hit after the second inning while Ezell-Harding tied the score with three runs in the bottom of the second and went in front with two in the third.

Friendship fell to 15-15 and will play host to Donelson Christian at 6:30 p.m. tonight with the winner advancing to the East-Middle Region tournament as the No. 3 seed and the loser going home for the season.

Michael Hawks was reached for 11 hits and no walks while striking out seven. Four of the runs were earned.

Marshall Taylor and Colton Gaines contributed second-inning singles for Friendship.

While Friendship plays for its season tonight, the District 9-AAA tournament will get underway at Mt. Juliet and Hendersonville. Wilson Central will take on Portland at 4 p.m. at Hendersonville’s Drakes Creek Park before the host Commandos take on Lebanon at 7.

At Mt. Juliet, the Golden Bears will meet Gallatin at 7 p.m. after Beech and Station Camp battle at 4.
