Schubert wins SECCC title for CU cycling

Cumberland’s cycling team has racked up numerous awards and top 5 finishes and junior Tommy Schubert claimed the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (SECCC) leaders’ jersey by accumulating the most individual points throughout the season.
The Bulldogs are racing this weekend at the USA Cycling Road National Championships in Richmond, Va.
Schubert won and junior Tanner Hurst placed third in the criterium at Clemson in mid-March and Schubert finished fourth and Hurst was sixth in the Criterium the next week at Western Carolina. Freshman Luke Caldwell finished second in the men’s B race at Clemson and was first at WCU.
The first weekend of April Schubert won the time trial on Saturday and with the team’s help, Hurst posted a victory in the criterium on Sunday at Milligan College. Caldwell moved up to the A race and earned a spot in this week’s national championship.
Schubert continued his excellent spring with a second-place showing in the Criterium at the conference championships at the University of Florida, while Hurst finished fifth in the road race. Schubert claimed a conference title in the time trial as well, helping the Fogelsville, Pa., native earn the leaders’ jersey for the SECCC.
