Cumberland will face the winner of Mobile and Concordia [CA] in the Round of 16 at the 63rd annual NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championships at the Mobile [Ala.] Tennis Center from May 13-17, the national office announced Tuesday.
The Bulldogs make their seventh all-time and third consecutive appearance in the national tournament. The squad won a pair of matches last season, defeating Mobile and Bethel before falling to Auburn Montgomery in the quarterfinals. CU will play at 1 p.m. next Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
Cumberland is the No. 6 seed in the 24-team field and received a bye in the first round. CU remained sixth in this week’s NAIA men’s tennis coaches’ top 25 poll released Monday, the club’s second straight ranking at sixth. The Bulldogs have been ranked in the top 10 all season, beginning the year at No. 8 in January.
