Commanders capture third place in East-Middle Region

DONELSON — Friendship Christian used a 13-hit attack to snare third place in the East-Middle Region via an 8-2 win over Davidson Academy at Donelson Christian on Thursday.

The Commanders broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the third inning, widened the margin with one in the fourth and broke the game open with three in the seventh to improve to 18-16 for the season.

Friendship will travel to West Tennessee late next week for a best-of-three sectional at the West Region runner-up, either Tipton-Rosemark [in Millington] or University School of Jackson.

Jackson Vance picked up the win last night with 5 1/3 innings of relief after starter Heath Johnson allowed two runs in 1 2/3 frames, leaving in a 2-2 tie.

Steven Hollis touched them all twice. In the fourth, he came around on an error on his triple. He blasted a two-run homer in the sixth.

Joseph McNamee notched three singles while Michael Hawks had two singles and a third-inning sacrifice fly. Vance added a sixth-inning sac fly and a single.

Cody Walker and Marshall Taylor doubled and singled while Jared Lowe singled.

Hollis, Vance and Hawks were named to the All-Region tournament team.
