Cumberland’s Chris Hall was voted the Mid-South Conference Baseball Champions of Character Award winner in advance of this week’s conference tournament in a vote of league athletic directors released Sunday.
The Lebanon native was voted first team All-Mid-South Conference for the second straight season in 2014 after earning MSC Freshman of the Year honors last year. He is batting a team-leading .424 with 11 doubles, three triples, 32 RBIs and 63 runs scored in 57 contests. The redshirt sophomore outfielder from Friendship Christian has 11 stolen bases, 38 walks and a team-best 15 hit pitches this season as well.
He ranks sixth nationally in hits (84) and eighth in runs scored after the Bulldogs won the 2014 Mid-South Conference Championship in extra innings on Wednesday night in Columbia, Ky.
Hall was one of three outfielders to claim Mid-South Conference Gold Glove honors in 2013 and has been a Mid-South Conference Scholar-Athlete in each of the last two seasons.
He has served as a volunteer with Sherry’s Run in Lebanon, Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville and as a peer mentor for the last two years at Cumberland. Hall is set to graduate this Saturday in just three years with a 3.99 grade-point-average in accounting. He is a member of Alpha Chi and Gamma Beta Phi honor societies at CU and was also nominated for the Mr. Cumberland award this year.
Each Mid-South Conference institution nominates one student-athlete per sport for the Champions of Character Award and the athletic directors from each school vote to determine that sport’s winner.
