Wilson Central to face Maryville in state opener

Wilson Central will open play in the state softball tournament at 10 a.m. Wednesday against Maryville at Starplex No. 1 in Murfreesboro.

The Lady Wildcats are 33-15 while Maryville is 26-9. Following their game, Soddy-Daisy will face Collierville. The losers will hook up that afternoon in a 4 p.m. elimination game, followed by the winners at around 6.

The top bracket of the tournament will get underway at 4 p.m. today. Dickson County [41-7] will face Munford, followed by Coffee County [29-13] against Gibbs [46-4].

The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will run through Friday.

In track, Lebanon’s Kadarian Garnett will compete in the boys’ high jump finals at 1 p.m. Friday at Dean Hayes Stadium at Middle Tennessee State. Mt. Juliet senior Mickey Fils will run in the 800 meters, whose finals will be held during the 4 p.m. session Friday.
