Stanfill signs Delgado, Gonzalez for CU softball

Cumberland softball coach Heather Stanfill announced the signing of Giselle Delgado and Madison Gonzalez to scholarship papers this week for the 2015 season.
Delgado and Gonzalez are the eighth and ninth signees for the Bulldogs for next season. Delgado earned second team All-Conference honors as a freshman at St. Petersburg College in Clearwater, Fla.
The Orlando, Fla., native was a four-year letterwinner for coach Shannon Johnson at Ocoee High School, garnering All-Metro accolades as a junior and Defensive Player of the Year honors as a junior and senior. She was earned the coach’s award as a freshman and MVP honors as a sophomore at OHS.
Delgado was a student athletic trainer and a member of the Student Government Association and the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Cecilia Delgado and Alejandro Delgado.
Gonzalez garnered second team all-conference honors in both of her years of junior college – as a freshman at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla., and as a sophomore at St. Petersburg College.
The Tampa native was a four-year letterwinner for coach Bobby Diez at Chamberlain High School, earning first team all-state accolades as well as first team honors All-Western Conference, All-SunCoast and All-Hillsborough County. She was named all-state tournament as well after going 4-for-6 with four home runs and 11 RBIs.
Gonzalez batted .333 with 21 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, seven homers and 33 RBIs as a senior at CHS. She was a member of the National Latin Honor Society, Student Government and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is the daughter of Marianne Diaz and Robert Gonzalez.
Delgado and Gonzalez join Leah Newsome, Maryah Cohen, Alisa Walker, Vienna Benavides, Brittany Rasmussen, Kristen Abell and Brianna Gregory in this year’s recruiting class.
