Watertown opens new gym with five-set win over Lady Wildcats

WATERTOWN — Watertown christened its new gym Tuesday with a 22-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-7 win over Wilson Central.

Victoria Foster finished with 11 digs and three aces for Watertown while Paige Mock notched nine kills and seven aces, Emily Gleason six kills and four aces, Katie Dalton five kills and three blocks, Allison Bouton 24 digs, Bailey Griffin five kills and Brandie Hill three blocks as the Tigerettes moved to 1-1.

Jordan Fitzgerald led the Lady Wildcats with 23 assists, 15 digs, two aces, a kill and a block while Meganelcher added eight digs, six assists, three aces, two kills and a block; Taylor Tucker six aces, five kills, two digs, an assist and a block; Delaney McCorkle 16 kills, three digs, an ace and a block; Molly Sydenstricker three assists, three kills, two digs and two blocks; Sara Wright seven kills, a dig and an assist; Loren Schmitt three digs and Ashlyn Guethlein two aces as Central, playing its season opener, was without five starters.

Central’s junior varsity won 28-26, 25-21.

The Lady Wildcats will play host to Oakland in their home opener Thursday with the JV at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 5. Central will then join Friendship Christian and Mt. Juliet at Smyrna for the Bulldog Bash on Friday and Saturday.

Watertown will remain at home Thursday for a tri-match against Lebanon and Trousdale County.

Lady Bears drop home opener

MT. JULIET — Cookeville escaped town with a 19-25, 25-15, 25-14, 15-25, 15-3 in the Lady Bears’ home opener Tuesday.

Cassidy Harris had six digs, six blocks and five kills for Mt. Juliet while sophomore SaraGrace Wilson added 13 assists and three aces as the Lady Bears fell to 1-1.

Mt. Juliet will go to Smyrna for the Bulldog Bash on Friday and Saturday.

MJCA off to 2-0 start

MADISON — Mt. Juliet Christian won for the second time in as many days to start the season Tuesday with a 25-10, 25-6, 25-11 triumph at Madison Academy.

Caroline Scott totaled 12 aces and Lauren Wankel 11 kills for the Lady Saints.

Mt. Juliet Christian will travel to East-Middle District 1-A rival Donelson Chrsistian at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Watertown falls in five

MT. JULIET — In Watertown’s 25-20, 14-25, 25-21, 16-25, 15-11 season-opening loss at Mt. Juliet Christian on Monday, Paige Mock totaled 12 kills, four digs and three aces for the Tigerettes while Katie Dalton finished with five kills, thee digs and two aces; Emily Gleason three kills, three aces and a dig; Allison Bouton 10 digs and five aces, Brandie Hill had nine kills and two digs, Victoria Foster nine digs and two aces, Bailey Griffin five kills and five digs and Allie Postin three kills.
