A feathery situation stalled traffic briefly on Interstate 40 Friday.
According to Mt. Juliet police, an officer responded to Interstate 40 eastbound near the 229 mile-marker shortly after noon Friday when a mother duck and five of her ducklings became stuck on the inside wall. The mother duck and her ducklings needed to cross traffic to get to a nearby pond.
So the officer and a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer closed the travel lanes of Interstate 40, and the family of ducks walked safely across the roadway to the pond.
The roadway was closed for about 3 minutes. Passing motorists, who witnessed the rescue, cheered and praised the officers for assisting the feathered family to safety so they did not have to duck in and out of traffic.
Video of the incident was captured on the police vehicle’s dash-cam.
