Brandy Lindsey runs Wildberry Catering in Lebanon, and her business got a bit of a boost Tuesday night during the Great Give-A-Way at the Wilson County Fair.
Just prior to the annual fair drawing that allows one lucky winner to choose between several vehicles, Lindsey had some significant problems with the van she used as the heart of her catering business. She said it was to the point where she resorted to renting U-Haul trailers to take her catering necessities to job sites.
“We have an old van that we used to haul all of our catering stuff in,” she said. “The seats are all ripped and torn – it’s just old.”
According to Lindsey, the van had more than 225,000 miles on it. She said for the past few weeks, the van wouldn’t even crank.
Enter Lindsey’s father.
“My dad was like ‘I’m going to win you that van’ [from the Great Giveaway],” she said.
Her father, Calvin Gaskey, went to various businesses all across Lebanon to get tickets for Tuesday’s drawing. The result of his efforts was 250 tickets, or 250 chances out of thousands to win the car.
“My dad was so helpful and giving to go around to all those places and get tickets,” Lindsey said.
Lindsey said prior to the drawing, the family went through the tickets and put them into groups. Tickets that began with a one went into a pile, tickets beginning with a two were in another, etc. The winning ticket began with a two.
“We had a string of them,” Lindsey said. “I saw one of them, and I just knew.”
Lindsey said new Dodge Caravan she selected was picked up from the dealership Wednesday and would immediately be put to use. Wildberry Catering plans to cater the Nashville Bridal Show this weekend.
“This is amazing,” she said. “I was just thanking God for providing for us.”
