A man was arrested and charged after he fired a gun when deputies arrived at his house after a call to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Department on Friday evening near Mt. Juliet.

According to Sheriff Robert Bryan, a woman called the department when she discovered Ashley Lovvorn, 53, had violated a protection order and was in the garage around 5:30 p.m.

“She saw his truck there and immediately left and called us,” said Bryan.

He said when deputies arrived at the house at 2027 Sanford Drive off Benders Ferry, they heard a gunshot from the back of the house.

“They backed off and called the Special Response Team,” he said. “When the man realized how much man power we had, he walked out of the house.”

Bryan said he did not know if the gun was fired toward deputies and at first law enforcement thought perhaps it may have been a suicide.

“But that wasn’t the case,” he said.

The surrender was peaceful, he said.

The man was charged with violation of order of protection, and other charges are pending.
