Mt. Juliet and Wilson Emergency Management Agency firefighters responded to a house fire on Erin Lane Thursday afternoon.
According to Mt. Juliet police Lt. Tyler Chandler, Mt. Juliet’s emergency communications center received a call about a fire in the home’s garage at about 12:30 p.m.
Chandler said an adult female was in the home at the time, but she was able to get out safely.
When firefighters arrived, flames had spread in to the attic.
“Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and large flames coming out of the garage,” said Chandler.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread to neighboring homes, and firefighters were still onsite at 3:30 p.m. extinguishing hot-spots.
The home sustained significant damage, but Tyler said not everything was lost.
“It appears they will be able to salvage some of the family’s belongings due to a quick response and preventing the fire from spreading further into the home,” said Chandler.
