TriStar Summit Medical Center has opened a new Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit offering a complete range of rehabilitation services in a 14,774 square-foot, state-of-the-art setting. The new unit opened Dec. 26 and is located on the third floor of the hospital. It includes 12 private rooms; a fully equipped gym; and complete apartment settings to help patients restore their activities of daily living.

TriStar Summit began construction in September on the 12 bed unit after winning approval from the state in July.

“We are proud to bring the newest dedicated inpatient rehab unit to the people of Davidson, Wilson and surrounding counties,” said Jeff Whitehorn, CEO, TriStar Summit Medical Center. “Our program provides each patient with their own customized plan of care, which will help them recover to their fullest potential in a timely manner.”

Admission criteria for inpatient rehabilitation is strictly regulated and includes patients recovering from stroke, amputation, multiple trauma, neurological disorders, spinal cord injuries and other debilitating conditions.

“The Inpatient Rehab Center is designed to make patients and their families comfortable while the patient undergoes an intense therapy plan designed for their individual case,” said Dr. Daymond McDuffey, Medical Director of The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at TriStar Summit. “Patients are treated by an entire team of highly trained, very experienced physicians, registered nurses and staff who specialize in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, rehabilitation, dieticians and other specialists. “The team meets regularly, understanding that rehabilitation is best accomplished by a team approach that addresses the comprehensive needs of the patient.

“Our goal is to discharge our patients with the highest degree of independence possible,” said Dawn Brennan, Director of The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at TriStar Summit. “Our multidisciplinary approach combined with state-of-the-art medical treatment means our patients have access to the gold standard of care.”

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at TriStar Summit joins TriStar Horizon Medical Center, TriStar Skyline Medical Center and TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center to offer the fourth HCA/TriStar center to serve Middle Tennessee.
