A flurry of gunfire rang out Wednesday evening at a townhome complex on Toshiba Drive in Lebanon, and police believe the incident is related to a fatal shooting early Saturday morning.
Police Chief Scott Bowen said multiple people in possibly a gray or silver Mazda fired multiple rounds into two townhomes.
“Two townhomes there received multiple shots,” Bowen said. “We had eight to 10 kids in one apartment that was shot at. Luckily, by the grace of God, no one was hurt.”
Bowen said investigators believe the incident Wednesday is connected to a shooting early Saturday morning that killed Andre D. Logue, 30, of Lebanon.
“Obviously we are in the middle of the investigation,” Bowen said. “We believe there are multiple people involved, and we believe it to be gang related, but we are certain the victim wasn’t involved in a gang.”
A Wilson County grand jury indicted two apparent gang members Tuesday with several charges in connection with the shooting death of Logue.
Bowen said Derrick Devaughn Carr, 19, of 204 Morgan Meade Court in Nashville, and Shaun Derrick Betty Jr., 20, of 3018 Indiana Ave. in Nashville, were indicted for first-degree premeditated murder, felony first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in the shooting death of Logue, 30. Justin L. Johnson, 26, of Lebanon, was also injured in the shooting.
Bowen said police also issued a $1,000 reward each for information leading to the capture of either Carr or Betty.
“We are working with TBI, FBI and the Nashville Gang Unit,” Bowen said. “We are doing everything we can to get these guys caught. We are offering a $1,000 each on these suspects, and the grand jury indicted them on several charges. Obviously the main thing right now is getting them arrested.”
Bowen said active criminal homicide warrants were signed and placed on file Saturday for Carr and Betty. He said both men are known members of the “Tree Top Bloods” gang and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Bowen said officers received a shots fired call at 48 Dedmon Street on Saturday at about 5:31 a.m. He said officers arrived to find a man shot to death at 32 Dedmon Street.
Bowen later identified the man as Logue, of 214 Stroud Drive.
According to Bowen, officers found a second shooting victim later Saturday morning at University Medical Center. He said investigators believe Johnson, 26, is a resident of and was also shot at 32 Dedmon Street. Police said Johnson was driven to the hospital.
A hospital spokesperson said Johnson was treated and released Saturday morning. Bowen said Johnson was not charged or in police custody.
Bowen said anyone with information should call Lebanon police at 615-444-2323.
This is the first shooting death reported in Lebanon since December 2012.
