A Franklin man took Mt. Juliet police on a ride Thursday afternoon.

Mt. Juliet police spokesperson Tyler Chandler said an officer tried to pull over a black Chevrolet Avalanche around 4:15 p.m. after he noticed the truck was missing a registration plate.

Chandler said the officer tried to stop the truck on Interstate 40 near the 228 mile marker, but the driver refused to stop. He said a chase continued into Lebanon, onto Highway 109 and then on Leeville Pike.

Chandler said the driver, Justin Gaines, 29, pulled over at the 4200 block of Leeville Pike and was arrested without incident. He said officers found drug paraphernalia.

Gaines was charged with evading arrest, driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also had outstanding warrants from Rutherford County for probation violations.

Chandler said the chase lasted about six minutes for about six miles with speeds near the speed limit.
