The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested a former correctional officer Friday afternoon for misconduct after he agreed to smuggle contraband into Riverbend Maximum Security Institution during a TBI sting last month.

Kevin Simmons, 35, of Clarksville, was indicted by a Wilson County grand jury earlier this week on one count of official misconduct.

On Oct. 15, Simmons met another individual at the Comfort Inn in Mt. Juliet and agreed to sneak a pack of tobacco rolling papers, perfume, a cellphone, cellphone minutes card and a note in to a Tennessee Department of Correction inmate housed at Riverbend in exchange for $3,000.

Simmons was working at Riverbend at the time of the sting. He was since terminated. Simmons was booked into the Wilson County Jail.
