Two new suspects added to most wanted list

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents added two new suspects Friday to the state’s most wanted list.

Rico Derell Sterling, 24, and Keith Jamar Thomas, 25, both of Knoxville, are each wanted by the TBI and the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office for one count of felony murder, one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and one count of attempted aggravated robbery.

On June 1, 2012, Sterling and Thomas were involved in a robbery at 335 Leaf Way in Newport, agents said. A third individual, James Michael Brewer, 27 of Cosby, was also present. Brewer went into the home first and then came outside. Sterling and Thomas went inside the house where a struggle ensued with two victims. The first victim suffered a head injury and was treated and released from the hospital. The second victim died at the scene after sustaining injuries in the struggle. TBI opened an investigation at the request of the District Attorney General James Dunn.

On Jan. 9, as a result of the TBI investigation and with assistance from the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office, indictments on Sterling and Thomas were returned.

On Thursday, Brewer was arrested without incident in Newport and taken to Cocke County jail. He is also charged with felony murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated robbery.

Sterling has a last known address of 2214 Virginia Ave. in Knoxville. He is described as an African-American male, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 162 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

Thomas has a last known address of 7326 Beech Leaf Road in Knoxville. He is described as an African American male, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 156 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

Sterling has a criminal history of traffic charges. Thomas has a criminal history of traffic, drug and assault charges.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Rico Derell Sterling or Keith Jamar Thomas is urged to call TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to arrests.
