An Old Hickory couple is giving the phrase “fake a smile” a new meaning.

Over the past year, Michael Richardson, 55, and Lana Richardson, 51, have been racking up accusations and charges for impersonating a dentist and unlawfully operating a dentistry in several different cities, including Lebanon.

The couple used to run a Lebanon dental office, Denture Express, located in a strip mall at 112 Plaza Centre, in 2010.

Most recently, Tullahoma police said the Richardsons are alleged to have been running Amazing Smiles as a dental provider in Coffee County at 1956 N. Jackson St.

Tullahoma police said Columbia police contacted them after an April 2013 search warrant showed a possible connection to the Amazing Smiles location in Tullahoma. They said Columbia officials stated the Richardsons were also arrested for unlawfully operating a dental business at 1802 Carmack Blvd. in Maury County in 2013.

As of last week, Tullahoma police investigators said local victims were interviewed, evidence was collected and the Richardsons were picked out of a photo lineup. Police said the focus of the investigation was in Columbia and three Tullahoma victims have been identified.

According to Tullahoma police, following their grand jury indictments, Michael was arrested and charged with impersonating a licensed professional and Lana was arrested and charged with aiding the impersonation of a licensed professional.

They both have been released on bond.

Besides Maury and Coffee County charges, investigators said the couple has also ran similar schemes in Warren County and in Kentucky.
