Tennessee Bureau of Investigation charged a former Fentress County Fire Department volunteer with theft Thursday.
On Jan. 22 and at the request of District Attorney General Lori Phillips-Jones, TBI began an investigation on Michael Edward Nicholas, 33, of Jamestown. In September 2013, the Fentress County school board donated a truck to the Fentress County Fire Department. At the time, Nicholas was a captain at the fire department. He registered the truck in his name instead of the Fentress County Fire Department.
During the investigation, TBI agents said they discovered Nicholas traded the truck to another person for his own personal gain.
The case was presented to a Fentress County grand jury and an indictment was returned Thursday for one count of theft of property more than $1,000 in value. Nicholas turned himself in at the Fentress County Jail. He was given a $5,000 bond.
