Multiple Mt. Juliet police officers responded to the Hickory Hills and Willoughby Station subdivisions Monday afternoon after a citizen spotted a rape suspect in Hickory Hills.
A citizen spotted the suspect, who was wanted by Metro Nashville police, running from the woods on Maricourt Street near Brownstone Street around noon. Just a few minutes prior, Mt. Juliet’s emergency communications center received a ‘be on the lookout’ advisory from Metro-Nashville police regarding the suspect possibly in Mt. Juliet’s jurisdiction.
After the citizen spotted the suspect, multiple Mt. Juliet officers flooded the area to assist Metro Nashville police with its search. In addition, the public was alerted via text message about the incident with the suspect’s description.
A Metro Nashville officer arrested the suspect around 12:30 p.m. in the area of Devonshire Drive and Maricourt Street.
Metro police later identified the suspect as German Ricardo Giron Gonzalez, 20, of Nashville.
According to Metro Nashville police, a woman reported she spent last night at a friend’s house where Gonzalez was also staying. She woke up this morning to find Gonzalez on top of her, sexually assaulting her, police said. She screamed, and he fled in a yellow Mitsubishi Lancer.
Gonzalez was driving on Rehnea Drive when he saw a marked police car. He stopped on Rehnea Drive and fled on foot near the Davidson County line with Wilson County around 11:30 a.m.
A short time later, a citizen reported to Mt. Juliet police a man matching Gonzalez’ description enter a wooded area. Metro Canine Officer Robert Collins was about to begin a search when Gonzalez walked out of the woods and surrendered himself.
Gonzalez was charged with rape. He remained Monday evening in jail on $50,000 bond.
