MT. JULIET – A woman having dinner at a Mt. Juliet restaurant became a theft victim recently after someone snatched her wallet from her purse while she ate.
Mt. Juliet police said the 54-year-old woman sat down with her husband to have dinner at Cracker Barrel on July 11 at about 5 p.m. Someone stole her wallet from her purse as it hung on the back of her chair while she was eating, officers said. A witness later reported they saw a white woman reach into the victim’s purse.
Prior to cancelling her credit cards, the victim noticed fraudulent charges on her accounts. Mt. Juliet investigators followed up with the case, and they were able to get surveillance footage of woman suspect attempting to use the victim’s credit cards at Walgreen’s in Hermitage and Kroger in Mt. Juliet. Investigators said they hope someone in the community will recognize the thief from the surveillance images so she can be charged.
Mt. Juliet police spokesperson Lt. Tyler Chandler said the crime is a reminder to all who carry purses to keep them in sight and closed.
In addition, Chandler said investigators believe the suspect is the same person who committed similar crimes in other Middle Tennessee communities by using the same method of taking wallets from purses while the victims are distracted or inattentive.
