A Wilson County grand jury indicted a father for aggravated child abuse Friday following an investigation stemming from an incident earlier this year.

John Avery Manus, 41, of Lebanon, was charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect of a child under 6 years old. He is the child’s father.

Lebanon police responded to a call May 9 at 302 Lake St. to assist Wilson County Emergency Management Agency paramedics.

The call involved a child about 2 months old. Paramedics took the child to Monroe Carroll Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt for injuries sustained in the incident.

Lebanon Det. Donnie Self conducted an investigation into the sustained injuries and presented his evidence to a Wilson County grand jury that met last week.

Manus is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 26.

Lebanon police Chief Scott Bowen said he could not release the police report from the incident due to the state Department of Child Services’ involvement in the case, which closes records on an investigation where a child is an apparent victim, according to state law.
