Mt. Juliet High School will offer a piano class beginning in the fall.

The class will be designed for all levels of piano students. Students will be tested at the beginning of the year to see what skills they already have in place, and then they will work at their own level. Students in the class will learn music theory, sight reading, performance and keyboard skills.

Each nine weeks, student progress will be assessed during a recital.

“Although Mt. Juliet High School has an outstanding band, choir and orchestra program, this will be a new and exciting avenue for our students to grow academically and musically,” said Sandy Elliott with the program.

Mt. Juliet High School has a few pianos that will be used in the classroom and for recitals, but the school is in need of electric keyboards.

“We want our students to be able to work every day on a keyboard and to be able to use headphones so as not to bother other students,” Elliott said. “Unfortunately, there is nothing in the budget at this time for these keyboards, so we are looking for the help of the wonderful people in our community.”

The class is in need of 15 five-octave or more working keyboards, keyboard stands, stools and headphones. Donations are also needed, and checks may be made out to Mt. Juliet High School.

“We need these keyboards by the beginning of next school year, Aug. 1,” Elliott said. “If you have a keyboard you would like to donate, or if you would like to make a donation to help purchase keyboards, please contact me by e-mail at mjhsbnn.com/mjhs/faculty.php under fine arts-music or call at 615-758-5606.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at our upcoming recitals and concerts.”

Elliott said the choir spring concert will be May 20 at 7 p.m., and the band and orchestra spring concert will be May 22 at 7 p.m. at the school.
