St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church is gearing up to hold a Valentine’s Day dance to help fund a complete rebuilding of their church.

Jenny Bennett said the church is currently in the middle of its campaign to build a new church, which is located at 300 S. Tarver Avenue in Lebanon behind Cumberland University.

St. Frances Cabrini celebrated its first Mass almost 100 years ago in 1915 at the home of John J. Martin, Sr., on West Spring Street. It wasn’t until 1952 that the church was built and since then additional land and property have been added to the original church that stands today.

Bennett said the Parish began with 26 families and today it boasts more than 500 families making up more than 1,100 individuals. She said the church currently only seats 200, despite “quite the population.”

Under the Rev. Michael O’Bryan, St. Frances Cabrini offers Mass Saturdays at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at 8:30 and 11 a.m. and a Mass in Spanish on Sundays at 1 p.m.

According to Bennett, the Dioceses has given the go ahead to go forward with the build.

“Since 1952 we’ve been in the same building and same location, but now we think we need to expand because of all the growth we’ve had,” Bennett said.

Bennett said they have been working toward expansion for almost a year, since April of last year, and decided a good fundraiser would be a dance to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The dance is set for Saturday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Lebanon Golf and Country Club and will be catered by Chop House on the Green.

Entertainment will feature a live band with 60s and 70s music and a cash bar will be available.

The event is open to the community and tickets are $100, with tables costing $500. The ticket price includes dinner and dancing and proceeds go to the support of the churches building campaign.

Those who are interested in purchasing tickets can contact Nikki Gann at 615-444-0524 or Bennett at 615-268-3221.

Bennett said limited seats are available and they have had a great response so far, so those interested should book fast.
