A new, local event is set for Good Friday, just in time for Easter.
Stations through the Square will be an event of meditating through the 14 Stations of the Cross, but walking and stopping at different places to remember each station. The scriptural Stations of the Cross will be used for each station.
This new event will be for those to personally reflect on the death of Christ with other believers and also serve as a reminder of this special day to others in the community.
The event will start at First United Methodist Church at 415 W. Main Street in Lebanon and travel up and down Main Street and Cumberland Avenue through the square, making a cross shape. The path is set to be around three miles total, with station stops along the way in ¼-mile increments.
Alternative Stations of the Cross stops will be at the church for those who can’t walk the length. There is also an indoor plan if weather is severe.
Scriptural Stations of the Cross include:
Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested.
Jesus is condemned by the Sanhedrin.
Jesus is denied by Peter.
Jesus is judged by Pilate.
Jesus is scourged and crowned with thorns.
Jesus takes up His cross.
Jesus is helped by Simon to carry His cross.
Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem.
Jesus is crucified.
Jesus promises His kingdom to the repentant thief.
Jesus entrusts Mary and John to each other.
Jesus dies on the cross.
Jesus is laid in the tomb.
Following the first stop at the First United Methodist Church garden, the next stop will be at Castle Heights and West Main, followed by Painturo’s, First Presbyterian Church, the square, Spring Street and Cumberland, the square, First Baptist Church, East Main Street, the square, Wilson County Jail, Liberty Bank, back to the square and finally ending at Lignon & Bobo Funeral Home.
Various local churches will sponsor a station and each church will man their station throughout the event during the day.
The event is open to anyone interested in walking the Stations of the Cross and all denominations are welcome. Those without a home church or with a group are also encouraged to come.
The event is set for Good Friday tentatively lasting from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
