Recently, the Society of St. Andrew brought 4,000 pounds of sweet potatoes to Joseph’s Storehouse as a contribution to help feed hungry families in Wilson County.

The donation was coordinated by the Society’s TN and AL Regional Director, Linda Tozer, who also arranged for a group from the Providence United Methodist Church of Mt. Juliet to help divide and bag the potatoes into family-sized portions for distribution. While they were there, they also helped to bag 3,000 lbs. of yellow apples.

“We want to express our appreciation to the Society of St. Andrew and especially Linda Tozer for their generosity to help the hungry citizens in our county,” said Bob Evans, founder of Joseph’s Storehouse. “We also thank the Providence United Methodist Church of Mt. Juliet for their help as well.

“According to their website, the Society of St. Andrew Tennessee regional office coordinates the state-wide Tennessee Gleaning Network, handles the placement and distribution of large loads with the Potato and Produce Project, and advocates on behalf of numerous hunger relief programs. Since 2010, the Society has distributed more than 12 million pounds of produce--or 38 million servings--to Tennessee communities experiencing hunger and poverty,” Evans said.

This month’s food giveaway will be held at Joseph’s Storehouse May 29 for those with physical disabilities, and May 31 for the general public. The hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on both days.

First-time applicants should visit the ministry’s website for requirements about receiving food.

Volunteers are also needed and encouraged to help and they should arrive between 8 and 8:30 a.m.

If groups of more than six are planning to attend, they must call the office at 615-453-5777 or register online at www.JoeStorehouse.com in order to participate so that everyone will have something to do.
