Expectant mothers can get free ultrasounds from Volunteer State Community College this spring.
The scans allow Vol State students to gain experience with real obstetric patients. The scans will be performed in the new sonography center at Vol State, equipped with six beds, high-definition screens and state-of-the-art ultrasound machines. A Vol State faculty member supervises all scans.
Interested women must have been to their obstetrician and confirmed the viability of their fetus. The students will scan Wednesdays after 1 p.m., beginning in February and continuing through April. The scans usually last one hour.
Patients must sign a release of liability before they can participate.
