Water agreement tops Lebanon council’s agenda

Councilors also seek to hire new director of human resources, add position to newly passed budget

The Lebanon City Council will meet Tuesday to discuss an agreement with the Wilson Water and Wastewater Authority, among other items.

Mayor Philip Craighead said the biggest item on the agenda is “the second vote for the water authority agreement.”

At the last council meeting, Craighead said the city and the water authority negotiated a “service area.”

“All that is area which we have first right of refusal. What we’re looking at, if there is an area that our conventional sewer is too far away and is too expensive for that development, that developer would have the opportunity to go to wastewater and talk to them about putting in a possible service area.”

He called it an agreement of cooperation between the two entities.

Also on the agenda is a second reading to include a director of human resources position in the newly passed budget.

“I think it’s something that the council realizes it’s time to move forward on this issue,” said Craighead.

The rest of the evening will be devoted to line item transfers in the various departments.

“That’s normal,” said Craighead. “Just trying to close out the books for the year before we get into the next budget.”

The council will meet at 6 p.m. at the Town Meeting Hall. A public hearing will precede the meeting at 5:55 p.m.
