Mt. Juliet firefighters responded to a residential structure fire call in the 100 block of Sports Road on Sunday around 1:15 p.m.

The fire was also fought in conjuncture with Wilson Emergency Management Agency firefighters, who were first on the scene at the mobile home at the intersection of Nonaville Road and Sports Road.

According to Mt. Juliet fire, when responders arrived the fire was active, with half of the mobile home engulfed in flames. Firefighters initially took an offensive approach and entered the home to put out the fire.

WEMA responder James Copas said the singlewide mobile home was about 25 percent involved upon their arrival.

“Initially we sent an attack crew in, but we had to pull them out and go to a defensive operation,” Copas said.

Copas said most of the fire was coming from underneath the home rather than inside.

“We got the fire knocked down, and everyone got out OK,” Copas said.

According to Copas, a family of two was living in the home, plus pets. The family’s cat was found inside the home unharmed, and no one was injured in the fire.

Mt. Juliet firefighters said they were able to salvage many of the belongings in the home, and no neighboring structures were damaged.

Copas said the home would “not be livable at all,” and Red Cross volunteers were notified to help the family.

Mt. Juliet Assistant fire Chief Jamie Luffman, along with Copas, said they were unsure how the fire started as an investigation continued Monday.
