Two cars collide in the center lane and a 911 call ensues. Every parent’s worst nightmare. Thankfully this time, it was only a simulation.
Students at Mt. Juliet High School witnessed a mock crash involving fellow students in front of the school on Thursday in an effort to prevent drinking and driving.
Members of the Mt. Juliet Police Department, the Fire Department of Mt. Juliet and Wilson Emergency Management Agency staged the mock accident and included an extrication as well as a visit from LifeFlight to help impress upon students the consequences of driving under the influence.
The simulation came just days before MJHS holds its prom, which will be Saturday night.
According to statistics from MJPD, in 2013, there were 2,693 traffic crashes in Wilson County, which includes 808 injury, 158 alcohol-related and 19 fatal crashes.
