(Caitlin Rickard • Lebanon Democrat) Lebanon High School principal Myra Sloan speaks to students about Celebrate My Drive on Friday during a pep rally at the school.

Students at Lebanon High School were given a special treat Friday when local State Farm agent Jeff Gannon announced the school had won a $100,000 grant from the Celebrate My Drive competition.

The Lebanon High School staff was working for a couple of weeks to be able to surprise the student body by incorporating the announcement in with the pep rally for the school's basketball home opener.

Principal Myra Sloan welcomed the students to their pep rally Friday saying, "there are three reasons why we are here – this is our first basketball home game, we want to remember President John F. Kennedy on this day, and we want to announce something very special."

Gannon then had the Lebanon cheerleaders come forward and reveal numbers leading up to the $100,000 mark.

"Thank you State Farm," Sloan said. "I've never seen this many zeros."

Following the presentation of the check to Sloan, Gannon told the students,

"We came to celebrate what you guys have won for LHS," Gannon said.

He asked the students how many of them missed a question on the Celebrate My Drive website during the voting process, and many raised a hand. He told them that he missed a question himself.

"We think it is important that you guys are safe. If this event can save one of your lives, that's what it's about," Gannon said.

Lebanon High School was awarded the $100,000 grant by placing in the top 10 among large high schools nationally by receiving safe-driving commitments during the Celebrate My Drive contest.

I hope they use some of the money to promote the tennis team. I just found out we have one.

The Tennis team will probably start having conditioning after the 1st of the year. They can not have their first practice until February 10th. The first official matches can start March 10th.
