Registration for children applying for the pre-kindergarten program and for children attending kindergarten within the Lebanon Special School District will be May 8 for the upcoming school year.

Registration will take place at College Hills Church of Christ at 1401 Leeville Pike from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. for Byars Dowdy Elementary School, Castle Heights Elementary School, Coles Ferry Elementary School, Sam Houston Elementary School and Cumberland University pre-kindergarten.

The pre-kindergarten program is voluntary, and eligibility is based on age and at-risk status, with low-income families given first priority in the program. Children must be 4 years old as of Aug. 15 and zoned for Lebanon Special School District in order to apply. Pre-kindergarten students are required to attend registration day to receive the required health screenings, including speech, hearing and vision.

Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 15 to be eligible to attend. Parents of kindergarten students should contact the school they are zoned to attend if they are unable to attend registration. Byars Dowdy Elementary School may be reached at 615-444-6651; Castle Heights Elementary School at 615-444-2483; Coles Ferry Elementary School at 615-443-1946; and Sam Houston Elementary School at 615-444-7494.

All students must have an original certified birth certificate, immunization certificate, including a physical examination, from a doctor or a state health department and proof of residence prior to school entrance.

Proof of insurance and income are required for pre-kindergarten applicants.

For faster registration, parents should bring copies of these documents in addition to the originals. Vision screenings, speech evaluations, hearing screenings and fluoride treatments will be provided at no cost.
