A variety of dress, food and other items from countries around the globe were on display at West Wilson Middle School on Thursday during the third annual World’s Fair.
Seventh-grade students are divided into groups, and each group randomly selects a country from the continent the group’s teacher is given. After finding out which country they are to represent, students do research on how that country’s people dress, native foods and many other things. Each group then completes a display for their country and shows it off to fellow students and parents.
“Not only does this project teach the kids about their individual country, but it also helps them learn to work in groups and how they all have to contribute to make the overall project come together,” said teacher Danielle Mercer.
Some of the countries represented included Iceland, Tunisia, Ireland, Uganda and many others. Parents and faculty members toured the building checking out the displays and sampling foods prepared by many of the students.
