The Wilson County Board of Education will tackle its budget Monday.

Director of Schools Donna Wright said the board moved its meeting time up to 4 p.m. to accommodate a joint meeting of the county’s education and budget committees on Monday afternoon.

“We moved the meeting to 4 p.m. to give the opportunity to have a joint meeting with the education and budget committee at 7 p.m.,” Wright said.

Members of the board, as well as Wright, will be on hand at the joint meeting so that “if there are any questions, then we will be there to answer them.”

In preparation, the board will hold a work session Saturday at 2 p.m. to finalize proposed budget plans.

Also on Monday’s agenda are requests from several school groups, including the Wilson Central High School softball boosters, Wilson Central principal Pat Suddarth and athletic director Chip Bevis, as well as West Wilson Middle School principal Wendell Marlowe.

The board will also review a policy regarding background checks.

“There was a question at the last county commission meeting by [Commissioner] Sara Patton, not directed at us, but we wanted to make a point that we do extensive background checks not only at state but at federal level,” said Wright.

“We want to be sure that people working with our kids have clean backgrounds.”

Both Monday’s meeting and the work session Saturday will be at the Central Office at 351 Stumpy Lane in Lebanon.
